Autum may bring challenges to the Lung and Large Intestine meridians. Some of the common complaints to surface at this time are cough, asthma, chest pain, mouth sores, tooth aches, nasal irritation and sore throat. Here are a few essential oil recipes to address common concerns in Autumn and help you stay in balance. Plus bio hacks to get you back on track when your family is under the weather.
School is in full swing and you know your children are picking up 30 varieties of germs a day. Do not forget the power of salt water gargles. It is safe to gargle as many times as needed to kick your sore throat before it sets into a full blown cold or flu. Some of my personal hacks are keeping colloidal silver spray on hand, to spray on the sore throat the moment you feel it. Hold the spray in the back of your throat for 30 seconds before swallowing. This one is easy to do with children as it has virtually no flavor. If you really want to hit your sore throat hard, then oil of oregano dropped on the back of the tongue and allowed to coat the tissues often does the trick with just a few applications over a couple days. If the infection spreads into the lungs, I often use a diffuser and inhale the vapor into the nose and lungs to clear the mucus membranes. This has saved my family many times from midnight coughing fits and allowed us to get rest.
Tooth Ache: Take charge of dental health through oil pulling with a drop of clove essential oil in fractionated coconut oil. Swish first thing in the morning for about 60 seconds and spit out the residue. rinse out your mouth. Due to its natural anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal nature, coconut is great for oil pulling and will assist in reducing plaque on your teeth. Recent research has found that systemic Candida overgrowth is implicated in dental plaque buildup as well as atherosclerotic plaque. The main food source of Candida is sugar and simple carbohydrates. Reducing your consumption would be a great idea if your dentist has identified plaque formation on your teeth. Accumulation of fungal and parasitic organisms has been shown to lower immune system response to invading pathogens and increase duration and severity of illness.
Sore Throat Gargle:
Half teaspoon of sea salt
1 drop Thyme
2 drops Chamomile
3 drops Lavender
8oz warm water
Asthma Nebulizer Blend:
2 drops Ravensara
2 drops Eucalyptus Radiata
1 drop Blue Eucalyptus
1 drop Juniper
Pain for Neck and Shoulder Massage oil:
6 drops Black Pepper
4 drops Vetiver
6 drops Ginger
5 drops Cedarwood
60 drops Jojoba oil
Cold Sores: Geranium oil directly applied with a Q-tip daily at onset. Massage face, neck and body with antiviral oils:
10 drops Geranium
10 drops Lavender
2 drops Thyme
8 drops Chamomile, Rose or Hyssop
2 table spoons carrier oil
